Soft starters for three - phase motors 3 × 400 V in the power range from 3 to 500 kW
SINAM 400 soft starters pose an attractive solution to acceleration and deceleration regulation of
induction motors by the change of amplitude of output voltage. With the use of phase control, the voltage applied to the motor terminals is continuously increased and thereby continuous
motor acceleration is ensured. Furthermore, resulting from phase control and continuous decrease in
terminal voltage after drive's stop command, smooth drive deceleration is ensured. Since the soft starters
include microprocessor DSP control, almost linear starting up and running down of a motor can be attained
resulting from motor torque modeling. Firstly, the torque is modeled by measuring values of current, voltage and motor power
factor, and secondly, on required values of torque increase (decrease).
The connection of a soft starter can be freely adapted to customer needs. The user can choose a
standard soft starter connection in series (power supply - soft starter - motor) with the line voltage
applied to the motor or a DELTA connection, where soft starter is connected inside the delta loop of a
delta connected motor, controlling the voltage applied to each winding. Where the optional accessory -
cooling unit - is used, bypass contactor is not required. As a result of soft starter's
internal measurements of motor current in each connection, motor temperature protection is not needed.
