Construction period: 2016 | Country: Slovakia

Artificial mains for powering electrical equipment on an isolated trolley line with a 60 Hz supply voltage. TRAN

Customer challenge

Exporting to 60 Hz markets, product testing, powering special technologies or replacing rotary converters - all need a source of precise sinusoidal voltage with parameters the ordinary grid cannot provide. This is not an off-the-shelf purchase.

VONSCH solution - turnkey

The AN 250 kVA 60 Hz artificial mains – a generator of the required electrical voltage with a 60 Hz output frequency – was designed to power electrical equipment (supplying a 107 kW induction motor through a frequency converter and star-delta (Y/D) starting of a 90 kW induction motor) on an isolated trolley line with a 60 Hz supply voltage, limited to the continuous, nominal and maximum current of the artificial mains. The transformer’s generated AC output voltage is sensed by a measuring circuit connected as feedback in the output-voltage control loop. The desired output voltage is fine-tuned with a potentiometer within a defined range. The output AC voltage, current, frequency, power factor and other values are shown on a digital display. The AN 250 kVA, 60 Hz artificial mains was engineered to the customer’s individual requirements. It features a lockable output-voltage selector switch, a lockable output (key-operated START button), a CENTRAL STOP button interlocked with the CENTRAL STOP button in the main switchboard of the tested machines, an output safety disconnect contactor, and an earth-fault current transformer with an electronic earth-fault relay. Visualization of the artificial mains is provided by an EWON industrial router.

What the customer gained

  • Export products tested at home – no complaints from the target market due to a different grid.
  • Repeatable tests – stable output independent of local grid quality.
  • Replacement for rotary converters – higher efficiency, less noise, minimal maintenance.
  • Parameters exactly per the test specification – no series-product compromises.
  • Long-term service from the manufacturer – the test bay is critical and must not stand still.

Why VONSCH

We reduce the risk of a wrong decision - from design to service you deal with a single partner who stands behind the solution.

  • A manufacturer, not a reseller - we develop and build power electronics in Brezno, Slovakia.
  • A turnkey solution - one responsibility from design through installation to commissioning.
  • Service and spare parts from Slovakia throughout the entire lifetime of the equipment.
