Soft starters for three - phase motors 3 × 400 V in the power range from 1,5 to 22 kW
SINAM 400 soft starters pose an attractive solution to acceleration and deceleration regulation of
squirrel cage asynchronous motors exploiting the change of amplitude of terminal voltage. With the use of phase
control, the voltage applied to the motor terminals is continuously increased and thereby continuous
motor acceleration is ensured. Also, resulting from phase control and continuous decrease in
terminal voltage at drive's switch off, smooth and controlled drive deceleration is ensured.
Soft starter operating states are indicated by five LED, which are placed
on the front side of soft starter enclosure. Voltage converters SINAM 400M
are equipped by the circuit indicating the termination of ramp increase. This
circuit is besides optical signaling equipped by contact relay output connected
in the coil circuit of motor contactor. After acceleration finishes, this circuit
by - passes soft starter power elements by switching on motor contactor. It means
that the motor is directly connected to the power supply and therefore abnormal
warming of power elements does not occur. As a result of mentioned facts the converter
can be characterized by high efficiency and small dimensions. At drive running down, firstly
motor contactor switches off and the soft starter smoothly decreases motor voltage to zero
values, thereby the smooth drive run down is ensured.
SINAM 400M soft starters are characterized by competitive utilization
features at favourable quality to price ratio

Key advantages
Soft motor start
Gradual voltage ramp-up eliminates mechanical shocks on the motor and driven machinery and prevents grid voltage dips during start-up.
Motor protection
Built-in thermal and current protections, phase loss and undervoltage detection - full motor protection even in demanding conditions.
Compact dimensions
Small footprint enables installation even in space-constrained cabinets without the need for external chokes.
Optional bypass
Integrated bypass contactor disconnects the thyristor stage after successful start-up - virtually zero thermal losses in steady-state operation.
Easy configuration
Parameters are accessible directly via the soft starter graphic display - no external PC tool or connection is required.
Long service life
Generously rated thyristors and robust cooling ensure reliable operation even in continuous 24/7 duty.
Examples of applications:
- acceleration control of squirrel cage asynchronous motors with power ranging up
to 22 kW, e.g.:
- acceleration control of pumps, air blowers and rables
- acceleration control of conveyers
- acceleration control of big masses of inertia
- acceleration control using soft starters is useless if starting motor torque exceeds only by a small value or is less than the needed starting torque of a mechanic system (when it is not possible to start the motor with reduced voltage)
Mechanical ADVANTAGES:
(resulting from the use of soft starters for AM acceleration control)- reduced starting motor torque - ensures smooth and "soft" starting of all the drives of a mechanic system, it lengthens the operating life of clutches between the motor and the gear
- it eliminates the necessity to use squirrel cage asynchronous motors, which are being started using wye - delta system
Contents:
(resulting from the use of soft starters for AM acceleration control)- reduces starting current to the adequate value
- reduces the number of contactors needed for acceleration: comparing to wye - delta acceleration
- reduces starting motor current to 1,8 - 3,5 multiple value of nominal current (the starting current is 5 - 7 multiple value of nominal current at direct starting)
- ensures long operating life of contactors
Electrical ADVANTAGES:
- analogue - digital control, LED lights, four adjustable potentiometers
- automatic detection of input phase dropout
- nearly linear motor acceleration (ramp-up) and deceleration (ramp-down)
- softstarter's cooler overtemperature indication
- automatic control of soft starter overtemperature by monitoring the number of start ups and the value of I2t
- automatic control of bypass contactor
- adjustable acceleration time (ramp-up time) and deceleration time (ramp-down time)
- adjustable starting torque at motor acceleration
Optional accessories
- higher degree of protection - up to IP66
