Soft starters for three - phase motors 3 × 400 V in the power range from 3 to 500 kW
SINAM 400 soft starters pose an attractive solution to acceleration and deceleration regulation of induction motors by the change of amplitude of output voltage. With the use of phase control, the voltage applied to the motor terminals is continuously increased and thereby continuous motor acceleration is ensured. Also, resulting from phase control and continuous decrease in terminal voltage after drive's stop command, smooth drive deceleration is ensured. Since the soft starters include microprocessor DSP control, almost linear starting up and running down of a motor can be attained resulting from motor torque modeling. Firstly, the torque is modeled by measuring values of current, voltage and motor power factor, and secondly, on required values of torque increase (decrease).
The connection of a soft starter can be freely adapted to customer needs. The user can choose a standard soft starter connection in series (power supply - soft starter - motor) with the line voltage applied to the motor or a DELTA connection, where soft starter is connected inside the delta loop of a delta connected motor, controlling the voltage applied to each winding. Where the optional accessory - cooling unit - is used, bypass contactor is not required. As a result of soft starter's internal measurements of motor current in each connection, motor temperature protection is not needed.

Key advantages

Soft motor start

Gradual voltage ramp-up eliminates mechanical shocks on the motor and driven machinery and prevents grid voltage dips during start-up.

Motor protection

Built-in thermal and current protections, phase loss and undervoltage detection - full motor protection even in demanding conditions.

Compact dimensions

Small footprint enables installation even in space-constrained cabinets without the need for external chokes.

Optional bypass

Integrated bypass contactor disconnects the thyristor stage after successful start-up - virtually zero thermal losses in steady-state operation.

Easy configuration

Parameters are accessible directly via the soft starter graphic display - no external PC tool or connection is required.

Long service life

Generously rated thyristors and robust cooling ensure reliable operation even in continuous 24/7 duty.

Examples of applications:

  • start-up control of squirrel cage induction motors with power ranging up to 500 kW, e.g.: start-up control of pumps, air blowers, rables, conveyers, high moment of inertia loads
  • acceleration control using soft starters is useful only if starting motor torque exceeds required starting torque of a mechanic system
Up

Mechanical ADVANTAGES:

(resulting from the use of soft starters for IM start-up control)
  • reduced starting motor torque - ensures smooth and "soft" starting of all the drives of a mechanic system, it increases the operating life of connections between the motor and the gear
  • it eliminates the necessity to use squirrel cage induction motors, which are being started using wye - delta system
Up

Electrical ADVANTAGES:

(resulting from the use of soft starters for IM start-up control)
  • reduces starting current to the adequate value
  • reduces the number of contactors needed for acceleration: comparing to wye - delta acceleration
  • reduces starting motor current to 2.5 - 4 multiple value of nominal current (the starting current is 6 - 8 multiple value of nominal current at direct starting)
  • ensures long operating life of contactors
Up

  • automatic control of soft starter overtemperature by monitoring the number of start ups and the value of I2t
  • automatic control of bypass contactor
  • four programmable binary inputs, two programmable analogue inputs
  • three programmable output relays designed for acceleration and its characteristics evaluation
  • cascade control of two additional motors
  • adjustable acceleration time (ramp-up time) and deceleration time (ramp-down time), S-curve
  • two sets of parameters designed for control of two different motors
  • communication with asuperior control system via RS485 - optional connection of PROFIBUS DP module

    1. if a soft starter needs to be switched on more frequently than it is presented in TECHNICAL DATA
    2. if a soft starter operates under voltage constraints
    3. if bypass contactor is not used
    4. if automatic acceleration is demanded - current limit applied
    5. if "energetic optimization" mode is used
