The VONSCH LOKO BMS is an advanced battery management system specifically designed for the control and protection of Li-ion batteries in mining and hybrid locomotives

The system is based on the BQ79606A chip from Texas Instruments®

Typical applications

Characteristics and advantages

Wide battery support

Supports Li-ion (NMC) and LFP modules in S12P01 configuration, including Samsung SDI 120 Ah/94 Ah and 1P12S-147 Ah LV01

Rich diagnostics and monitoring

Advanced fault and alarm functions with over-current, under-voltage and over-voltage detection at individual cell level.

Three voltage measuring points

Accurate voltage measurement at battery level, precharge relay and output power relay for a detailed string state.

Passive cell balancing

Integrated passive balancing unifies cell voltages, increasing usable capacity and extending battery pack life.

Parallel string cooperation

The ability to parallel individual strings enables scaling of both power and capacity to match application requirements.

Comprehensive safety

Voltage monitoring of every cell and six temperature measuring points per battery module. Optional integration of insulation resistance measurement.

Open communication

An RS-485

Convenient operation and diagnostics

Setup and diagnostics are provided by the VONSCH Drive Studio

Topology

VONSCH LOKO BMS is built on two PCB types – BMS12C

BMS12C board (slave)

BMS12C board (slave)

Measures cell voltage and temperature, manages balancing and Daisy Chain bus communication. The board contains no firmware – it is configured from BMSM3V3 at startup.

BMSM3V3 board (master)

BMSM3V3 board (master)

Serves as the control unit of a single battery string. It manages charging, discharging, balancing and diagnostics of the entire string.
